Zahájení 5. Mistrovství Evropy IPCA v šachu osob s tělesným postižením 2025
Ostrava, 11. října 2025 – V Ostravě bylo slavnostně zahájeno 5. Mistrovství Evropy IPCA v šachu tělesně postižených sportovců, které se koná poprvé v České republice. Šampionát probíhá pod hlavičkou Mezinárodní šachové asociace tělesně postižených (IPCA), přidružené ke Světové šachové federaci FIDE.
Turnaj hostí rekordní počet čtyřiceti hráčů ze sedmi zemí – Francie, Izraele, Německa, Polska, Slovenska, Ukrajiny a České republiky. Na programu jsou tři disciplíny: Standard, Rapid a Blitz, v nichž budou vyhlášeni mistři Evropy ve čtyřech kategoriích – Open, ženy, vozíčkáři a junioři.

Účastníky pozdravili náměstek primátora statutárního města Ostravy Zbyněk Pražák, který ocenil početné startovní pole a popřál hráčům kromě sportovních výkonů také hezké zážitky a vzpomínky na Ostravu jako město sportu a kultury, a předseda Šachového svazu ČR Martin Petr, který všem popřál jasnou mysl a kvalitní sportovní zážitky.

Oficiální první tah provedl náměstek primátora statutárního města Ostravy Zbyněk Pražák. Tím bylo mistrovství slavnostně zahájeno.
Šampionát probíhá za podpory Národní sportovní agentury, Moravskoslezského kraje, statutárního města Ostravy, Šachového svazu České republiky a Moravskoslezského šachového svazu.

♟️ Official Opening of the 5th IPCA European Individual Chess Championship 2025
Ostrava, Czech Republic – October 11, 2025
The 5th IPCA European Individual Chess Championship 2025 was officially opened today in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The championship is sanctioned by the International Physically Disabled Chess Association (IPCA), affiliated with the World Chess Federation – FIDE, and is being hosted in the Czech Republic for the very first time.
The ceremony took place in the presence of players, coaches, officials, and guests from seven European countries – France, Israel, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic.
🏆 A Record Number of Participants
In her opening speech, Radka Kučírková, President of Czech Adaptive Sports, welcomed everyone to the event and reminded the audience that the IPCA organization was founded in the Moravian-Silesian Region in 1992 by Mr. Jiří Ulmann, its first president.
This year’s championship has attracted around forty players, marking the highest number of participants in the history of the IPCA European Championship.

The event features three competitions – Standard, Rapid, and Blitz – each crowning its own European Champion in four categories: Open, Women, Wheelchair Users, and Juniors.
As emphasized during the ceremony, all three tournaments embody the values of chess – concentration, courage, and respect – qualities that transcend the chessboard and inspire everyday life.
👏 Distinguished Guests and Officials
Among those attending the ceremony were:
- Ing. Zbyněk Pražák, Ph.D., Deputy Mayor of the Statutory City of Ostrava,
- Mr. Martin Petr, President of the Czech Chess Federation.
Deputy Mayor Zbyněk Pražák expressed his delight at welcoming such a large and diverse field of participants to Ostrava. He wished all players successful games and also many pleasant experiences and lasting memories of Ostrava – a city that strives to be a vibrant centre of sport and culture.
Mr. Martin Petr, President of the Czech Chess Federation, also welcomed the participants and wished them a clear mind, great focus, and rewarding sporting experiences throughout the tournament.
The arbiters responsible for fair play throughout the championship are:
- International Arbiter Jan Sikora, Chairman of the Czech Chess Federation Arbiter Commission,
- FIDE Arbiter Jiří Novák, Chairman of the Moravian-Silesian Chess Federation.
The tournament is directed by Mr. Bohumil Vaněk, Sports Director of Czech Adaptive Sports.

Official Opening
After the national anthem concluded the formal part of the ceremony, the event was officially declared open.

The symbolic first move of the tournament was made jointly by Deputy Mayor Zbyněk Pražák.
With that, the championship is now underway — bringing together the best physically disabled chess players from across Europe in a true celebration of inclusive sport and international friendship.
